Some studies of reliefs from Valladolid, Spain and Salamanca, Spain. Pencil and ink marker in a #moleskine cahiers sketchbook. Salamanca is a beautiful and pleasant city. Unfortunately the weather during Easter week was cold and rainy, so not much outdoor sketching got done. Here’s the only oil painting I did , of the Cathedral and Roman bridge, which involved occasionally dashing with all my equipment to underneath the bridge to hide from rain! Archivo de Simancas. My understanding is that this building holds a huge number of documents from the years when Spain was ruled by royalty, and scholars frequent the building for research on the history of Spain and its possessions. Perhaps it doesn’t come immediately to mind, but it’s interesting to remember that at one point Spain controlled a significant portion of the entire planet. • Last one in Segovia of the Alcazar. Legend has it that this inspired the castle in Walt Disney’s Cinderella animated film. I had an interesting experience hiking around the hills just outside historic Segovia looking for a good spot. I loved the pine trees in front of the Alcazar but wish I had reduced one or two of them in size. When I finished my visit in Segovia and I was leaving to start my hike on the Camino de Santiago Madrid route, I saw some other really sensational views from the other side of the city.
